Hi, I’m Mackenzie Ruether.

For the past 9 years, I’ve been a Minnesota licensed family childcare provider — starting in my small home and growing into a larger commercial space. Every day, I’m hands-on designing learning areas, managing routines, and creating calm, functional environments that support children of multiple ages.

I’m also a mom to twin boys and a daughter — three little ones who were once all under three — which gives me a real-life understanding of how important organization, simplicity, and intentional spaces truly are.

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Science from North Dakota State University, and my experience in early childhood spans a variety of settings. I’ve worked in both a Montessori preschool and a traditional Primrose School, giving me a well-rounded understanding of different teaching philosophies, classroom structures, and learning environments.

Homegrown was created from a passion for sharing what works. My approach focuses on practical, real-life solutions that are developmentally appropriate, budget-friendly, and designed to support independence, creativity, and connection. Whether I’m helping a provider improve their daycare layout or working with a family to create a meaningful playroom, my goal is always the same: to create spaces where children can grow, learn, and thrive — and where caregivers feel confident and supported.

When I’m not consulting, you’ll find me caring for little ones, organizing (always organizing!), drinking coffee, and dreaming up ways to make early childhood spaces feel calm, intentional, and truly homegrown.
